Rogers Partners Authors Chapter in New Civil Procedure Text

Civil Procedure & Practice in Ontario (CPPO) is a new text written by a team of 135 litigators and experts in Ontario civil procedure. It explains the Rules of Civil Procedure, the Courts of Justice Act, and the Limitations Act, along with the case law interpreting them.

Professor Noel Semple of the University of Windsor Faculty of Law is the editor of the text, which is available for free on the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) website.

The team behind CPPO wanted to create something that would be not only sophisticated enough for litigators, but also straightforward and understandable for law office staff, self-represented litigants, and the general public.

Professor Semple states:

The law exists in order to bring better justice into human relationships. It governs the decisions of judicial officials, but it is also meant to help people avoid and resolve disputes without the need for formal procedure. For the law to function in these ways, it must be accessible and intelligible to all those to whom it applies.  Ideally, everyone should be able to learn, quickly and costlessly, how the law would apply to any set of facts.

Rogers Partners LLP was honoured to receive an invitation from Professor Semple to write a chapter on Rule 34 – Procedure on Oral Examinations. We would like to acknowledge Brian Sunohara, Rebecca Moore, Meryl Rodrigues, Erin Crochetière, and Emily Vereshchak for their hard work on this project.
